Inge Katharine Sehnert
geb. 1937 in Erfurt, erhielt von 1955 – 1963 ihre Ausbildung in Modernem Tanz, Tanzpädagogik und Tanzkomposition bei Mary Wigman in Berlin und war 1962 Mitgründerin der Studiogruppe für Neuen Tanz MOTION Berlin.

Von 1970 – 1974 arbeitete sie als Probenassistentin von Pina Bausch und Tänzerin im Folkwang Tanzstudio Essen, anschließend als Tanzpädagogin und Choreographin in Frankfurt am Main.
From 1970 – 1974 she worked as assistant to Pina Bausch and as a dancer in the Folkwang Dance Studio Essen, later as dance teacher and choreographer in Frankfurt am Main.
Hier gründete sie 1976 die Gruppe "Mobile" Frankfurt, mit der sie 1978 beim Internationalen Choreographen-Wettbewerb in Bagnolet/Frankreich ausgezeichnet wurde. Es folgten eigene Produktionen am "Theater am Turm" in Frankfurt am Main.
In 1976 she founded the "Group Mobile Frankfurt", with which she won a prize at the International Choreography Competition in Bagnolet (France) in 1978. She also staged productions at the "Theater am Turm" in Frankfurt am Main.
1982 eröffnete sie in Köln den TANZRAUM als Studio und Kreatives Zentrum und gründete die Gruppe "Kontinuum".
In 1982 she opened the TANZRAUM in Cologne as a studio and forum for artistic work, and founded the group "Kontinuum".
Nach einem Studienaufenthalt in Japan bei dem Butoh-Tänzer Min Tanaka, befasste sie sich intensiv mit der Philosophie und dem Körperverständnis des Butoh-Tanzes.
After studies in Japan with the Butoh-Dancer Min Tanaka, she made an intensive exploration of the philosophy and corporeal apprehension involved in Butoh dance.
Seit 1988 entstanden vorwiegend Solo-Programme; es folgten Gastspiele in Deutschland, Mexiko und den U.S.A. 1994 gewann sie den Kölner Tanzpreis für ihr Solo "lautloses echo". 2003 Schließung des eigenen Studios, seither freischaffend tätig als Choreographin, Performerin und Pädagogin. Gastspiele mit dem Tanz-Solo "2nd movement".
Since 1988 she has focused on solo dance. She made several guest appearances in Germany, Mexico and U.S.A. 1994 recipient of the Dance Award of the City of Cologne for "soundless echo". In 2003 the TANZRAUM was forced to close. Since that time she has been a freelance choreographer, performer and teacher. Guest performances with her dance solo "2nd movement".
Regelmäßige Seminare und Vorträge über die Bewegungsprinzipien Mary Wigmans, u.a. bei Pact Zollverein Essen, in Avignon, Dresden und verschiedenen Hochschulen in Deutschland (Hannover, Köln, Trossingen, Frankfurt, Berlin) und Rußland (Perm, Jekaterinenburg), sowie Tanz-Performances in Museen und im urbanen Raum. 2009 Auszeichnung mit dem Ehrentheaterpreis der Stadt Köln.
Regular seminars and lecture demonstrations about Mary Wigman's principles of movement, e.g. at Pact Zollverein Essen, in Avignon, Dresden and at various universities in Germany (Hannover, Köln, Trossingen, Frankfurt, Berlin) and Russia (Perm, Jekaterinenburg). Also dance-performances in museums and urban spaces. 2009 Cologne Theatre Prize for Lifetime Achievement.

Eine TanzStadtFührung mit Thomas Thorausch 2016 folgte den Spuren der Geschichte des Tanzes in Köln. Vom Friedrich-Wilhelm-Gymnasium, 1960 Schauplatz des ersten Auftretens von Merce Cunningham, Carolyn Brown, John Cage und David Tudor in Köln ging es weiter in die Südstadt, wo 1982 mit dem TANZRAUM ein Multikulturelles Zentrum entstand. Auf die Idee des “Salons” zurückgreifend wurde hier eine Begegnungsstätte geschaffen, in der vorwiegend spartenübergreifende Arbeiten der Künstler gezeigt wurden und mit dem Publikum in Form von Gesprächen reflektiert werden konnten.
DanceCityTour with Thomas Thorausch in 2016 following in the footsteps of the history of dance in Cologne. From Friedrich-Wilhelm-Gymnasium (high school), the scene in 1960 of the first appearances of Merce Cunningham, Carolyn Brown, John Cage and David Tudor in Cologne it led to the southern quarter of the city, the Südstadt, where a multicultural center, TANZRAUM, was established in 1982. Drawing on the idea of the "salon", a meeting place was created here in which mainly genre-spanning works by the artists were shown and could be reflected upon with the audience in the form of talks.
